The Euro-Inf Spread Project (2009-2011)

The Euro-Inf Spread project built on the highly successful outcome of the previous Euro-Inf Project (below), in the framework of which a set of learning outcomes statements constituting a sectoral qualification framework for informatics as well as criteria and procedures for the assessment of informatics degree programmes were agreed by practically all major stakeholders in European informatics education. The Euro-Inf Spread project consortium represents these major stakeholders in informatics education and professional societies in Europe.

The Euro-Inf Spread project aimed at further strengthening the European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education (EQANIE) as the institutional backbone of the Euro-Inf system and disseminating the Euro-Inf Framework to a wider scope of users, in particular by awarding the Euro-Inf quality label to Higher Education Institutions in Europe and beyond, by soliciting national quality assurance bodies to use the Euro-Inf criteria in their national context, and by extending the Euro-Inf criteria also to the area of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Project Partners were the following organisations:

  • ASIIN Consult GmbH
  • CEPIS/ECDL – Council of European Professional Informatics Societies
  • TU Berlin – Technical University of Berlin, representing EQANIE (European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education)
  • Università degli Studi di Milano and
  • Università degli Studi Roma “Tor Vergata”, together representing GRIN (Gruppo di Informatica)
  • HEQEC – Latvian Higher Education Quality Evaluation Center (AIKNC)

European Accreditation of Informatics Programmes – Euro-Inf (2006-2008)

The Euro-Inf Project (2006-2008) was the pre-runner to the Euro-Inf Spread Project. It was co-financed by the European Union under the Socrates Programme. In the period between 2006 and 2008, the Euro-Inf Project established and tested Framework Standards and Accreditation Criteria for Informatics Programmes in Europe.

The Euro-Inf Project aimed at the creation of a framework for setting up a European system for accreditation of informatics education at the First Cycle and Second Cycle level (as defined within the Bologna process). In the course of the Euro-Inf project, a set of “Framework Standards and Accreditation Criteria” was developed. These standards and criteria were tested and further developed in a series of trial accreditations at HEIs throughout Europe.

The developments and the results of Euro-Inf were presented and discussed at several meetings and workshops, regularly organized by project partners and related thematic networks, both during the project and after its conclusion. Euro-Inf also included a proposal for the organisation and management of an accreditation system. This has been achieved with the founding of EQANIE.

Project partners of the Euro-Inf project were the following organizations:

  • ASIIN e.V. The German Accreditation Agency Specialised in Accrediting Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (coordinating partner)
  • CEPIS, The Council of European Professional Informatics Societies
  • The University of Applied Sciences of Hamburg, Informatics Department
  • The University of Paderborn, Department of Computer Science
