The accreditation activities of EQANIE, the European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education, are progressing steadily: At its last meeting in Edinburgh inMay, the Accreditation Committee accredited two computer science courses for the first time at the University of Latvia and prolonged accreditation to the full period forthree more courses from Milan and Riga. Further accreditations are pending forSpanish and Italian universities.
At the meeting, EQANIE also welcomed the Irishman Kevin Marshall from Microsoftas a new member of the Accreditation Committee. Next to the Dutchwoman AntoniaWildvank from Capgemini, he is one of the two industry representatives on the international committee composed of a total of eight experts.
Moreover, EQANIE’s pool of auditors was expanded by a number of leading European Computer Scientists. EQANIE is particularly pleased with the offer of the European Student Union (ESU) to formalize the cooperation, which will allow EQANIE access to the European pool of student reviewers.
The British Computer Society (BCS), a founding member of EQANIE, is currentlypreparing their application for authorization to award the Euro-Inf label. As the firstauthorized agency, ASIIN awarded more than 20 Euro-Inf labels to German andinternational universities in 2011. Interest in EQANIE is growing steadily, even beyond the group of its current members. Thus a Russian and a Romanian Agencyrecently applied for membership.
